While everyone is busy preparing for Surtex (opening Sunday at the Javits Center), I've been wishing I could go and working on some patterns in my spare time. I just finished the first module of The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design, taught by Rachael Taylor.
I created the design with the yellow background (which is currently in with my repeat patterns on this site) and submitted it for their graduate showcase. I'm working on some coordinates so that I can add this to my collections. Also, they will be having a FREE summer course at Make it in Design. Hopefully there will be some exciting posts from other surface designers following Surtex. Best wishes to those attending!

I uploaded my Cuckoo clock design to my new Society6 shop and I really love how it looks on everything! The photo in this post is the kid's t-shirts in navy. I'm really excited to upload more artwork to the site, because their pillows look amazing! I don't just mean for my work either. Everything looks high quality, plus it doesn't hurt that they mock everything up and you can see it right in front of your eyes, instead of just fantasizing about how great that pattern would look on a mug or shower curtain or tote bag. There are a lot of great new cuckoo designs on the site, thanks to Lilla's February assignment. The new assignment for Bootcamp goes online Monday! Such anticipation for the next trend and market. I just submitted my first assignment for MATS Assignment Bootcamp! I'm thrilled to say that a whole collection has come out of this class so far and I loved working with Lilla's color scheme! I submitted the image on the left as my final, but I was torn with submitting the one on the right. I added the collection to my portfolio.
It has been a really long time since I blogged, but since I have been started figuring out this whole surface design career path, I've been looking forward to creating my portfolio and I think that a blog will go nicely with it.
Any way, welcome to my new portfolio! It is a work in progress, but I like what I've done so far. |
